For a CNC ceramic grinding machine used in medical technology, a multifunctional wiper assembly incorporating two U-cup seals was required. The customer supplies complete ceramic solutions for dental restorations (crowns, bridges, and implants). Following nearly 20 years of cooperation, we were entrusted with the further development of an existing design. Whereas the previous generation featured a one-piece assembly, the new design was required to incorporate a housing with a set screw and O-ring to simplify installation.
Even before the redesign, this application was particularly demanding. The challenge was to reliably remove dry or paste-like ceramic dust (particle sizes down to 1 µm) as well as contaminated cooling water from a rotating and transversely moving shaft, ensuring that the highly precise preloaded ball guide located behind the seal remained permanently protected against contamination ingress.
In this project, we developed a high-tech solution at a highly economical cost.
