For use in a dry-running compressor or gas compressor, piston rings made of PTFE compounds are essential. They operate without oil, thereby preventing contamination of the gas being compressed. During the manufacturing process, they are precisely formed to match the cylinder diameter, ensuring proper contact with the cylinder wall from the outset. Due to the differential pressure between the front and rear sides, the piston ring is automatically pressed against the mating surface, providing a seal without any additional preloading elements.
Various joint designs (also referred to as “ring gaps”) are available, depending on the sealing requirements:
- Butt Joint
- Angled Joint
- Overlapping Joint
- Gas-Tight Joint
- Double-Sided Gas-Tight Joint
Enduflon P16 (modified polyethylene) is recommended as a PFAS-free alternative.
