Dead-space-free miniature seal for valve needles with low friction and zero media carryover
Monday, 20 July 2026 / Published in Special Seals

Needle seal

Dead-space-free design and low friction are critical requirements in these applications. In most cases, the seal is designed as a multifunctional lip seal, which can also incorporate static sealing beads, guiding surfaces, and disassembly threads.

Occasionally, a spring-energized seal or spring-energized jacket seal is used. However, these designs may present disadvantages in terms of dead space and paint carryover.

Particularly innovative today are paint valves with bellows seals or diaphragm seals, in which the needle cap is directly integrated into the sealing element. This design provides 100% prevention of paint and solvent carryover.
When used with UV-curable coatings, such miniature sealing solutions are able to fully leverage their performance capabilities.
