Materials
For technical reasons, we primarily use plastics for our sealing and sliding components, which are machined exclusively by cutting. Because of this production method, which is not tied to a specific manufacturing process, prototypes can be produced very quickly and cost-effectively; they are immediately ready for series production and can be adapted to changing requirements at any time with minimal effort.
These high-performance plastics are custom-designed for each specific application. The blanks required for this are then manufactured to close tolerance according to our specifications. In the past, the production of fluoropolymers required the use of PFOA and PFOS, which have since fallen into disrepute. Due to concerns surrounding PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), we have undergone a radical shift in our thinking.
Through our own materials development efforts, we are conducting intensive research into PFAS-free alternative plastics that are intended to replace the fluoropolymers used to date as completely as possible in the long term. Materials based on UHMW-PE, PET, and PA will increasingly replace the materials used to date, such as PTFE, PTFE compounds, and PVDF.
Through intensive research in the field of sustainable materials, we aim to do our small part to continue enabling sophisticated technical solutions without the use of fluoropolymers and, thus, without the concerning release of volatile PFAS. Selecting plastics derived from natural resources, as well as recycling and reusing generated shavings, will also be central to our efforts in the future.
Our philosophy of sustainability therefore requires that we no longer favor PTFE, etc., for new projects.
