Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene is already widely used as a glide surface for skis and snowboards. The material has a low coefficient of friction, is food-safe, and is relatively inexpensive. Compared to polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon®), it is stiffer and more abrasion-resistant. Nevertheless, UHMW-PE still plays a minor role in sealing technology.
