PTFE in its pure white form has several disadvantages. To compensate for these, blends containing various fillers are produced.
Fillers can thus be categorized into three groups:
- Structure and Strength Enhancers
- High-performance polymers (e.g., PEEK, PPS)
Purpose: To increase wear resistance and mechanical strength - Wear-resistant fillers (e.g., glass fibers, carbon fibers, carbon)
Purpose: To increase wear resistance and reduce deformation under load - Metallic fillers (e.g., bronze, stainless steel)
Purpose: To improve thermal conductivity
- High-performance polymers (e.g., PEEK, PPS)
- Friction and Wear Optimizer
- Dry lubricants (e.g., graphite, MoS₂)
Purpose: To reduce friction
- Dry lubricants (e.g., graphite, MoS₂)
- Functional fillers
- Conductive fillers (e.g., carbon black)
Purpose: To ensure electrostatic dissipation
- Conductive fillers (e.g., carbon black)
