Wednesday, 07 October 2026 / Published in Fluoropolymers
The proven and reliable high-performance plastic for custom industrial seals PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, e.g., Teflon®) is a fluoropolymer that has become indispensable in engineering applications. Its outstanding properties have made it the most widely used material to date for custom seals and plain bearings. For dynamic seals and sliding bearing components, PTFE blends known as compounds (Enduflon

The world of fluoropolymers extends beyond PTFE and TFM®. Most known are: For many of these fluorine-containing polymers, first-class PFAS-free alternatives are now available. For example, based on UHMW-PE.

The so-called paste extrusion is a manufacturing process for PTFE grades with specific molecular properties that enables the production of tubes and profiles. A wide range of tube diameters is available on the market. These range from so-called ultra-thin “spaghetti tubes” (with lumens below 1 mm) for minimally invasive surgery to linings for pipes and

PTFE in its pure white form has several disadvantages. To compensate for these, blends containing various fillers are produced. Fillers can thus be categorized into three groups: We’re sure to have the right compound for your application.

Diagram of the molecular structure of a modified PTFE material (Enduflon M)
Modified PTFE, also known as TFM® from Dyneon®, offers all the advantages of this outstanding fluoroplastic, just like “standard PTFE.” However, by modifying the molecular structure, the following properties have been further improved: Due to the closure of the Dyneon plants, the well-established brand portfolio of TFM® modified PTFE grades will disappear from the market.
