A customer in the analytical instrumentation sector required a fixture for a microwave digestion system. For the so-called liners, in which samples are digested using microwave energy under elevated temperature and pressure, a rotating rack (carousel) had to be manufactured entirely from non-polar, highly chemical-resistant, and thermally stable materials.
The solution was an assembly consisting almost entirely of PTFE components: two CNC-machined holders joined by rods and secured with ceramic pins. The thrust bearing was realized using PTFE balls and a PTFE ball cage.
